Arriving in Melbourne in 1927, Giuseppe went to work with his sister Terzita and her husband Angelo in their fruit shop. His wife Teresa and five-year-old daughter Caterina joined him in 1932, and shortly afterwards, he left Angelo's business to open his own fruit shop in Carnegie.

Two years later, Giuseppe and Teresa began extending their family. John was born in 1934, followed by Mary and Lena.
