Mandile Family Photo Gallery 1:
Giuseppe
Giuseppe Mandile was born in Filicudi in 1900. His parents were Giovanni Mandile and Caterina
Favaloro and he was the third of five children. His siblings were Giuseppina and Stefano (both older), and
Terzita and Assunta (both younger).
There were very few photos taken of the family because it wasn't a common practice in the early part of the
20th century. People occasionally paid a photographer to take their portrait, or they were photographed at special
occasions like weddings or christenings. Here are our earliest photos of the five Mandile siblings:

Giuseppe arrived in Australia in 1926. He initially disembarked at Fremantle in Western Australia, where
his wife's family had settled, but found it didn't suit him. A year later he made his way to Melbourne, where he
lived with his sister Terzita and her husband Angelo. He worked in Angelo's fruit shop and saved money to bring his
wife Teresa and daughter Caterina to Australia.
In 1935 Giuseppe's mother, Caterina Favaloro, arrived in Australia with her youngest daughter Assunta. She posed
for this portrait in her 80s.
